Water People has been invited to participate in the First Edition of the Chicago Latino International Theater Festival, organized by The Chicago Latino Theater Alliance. We are very proud and grateful to have the opportunity to share the Latin American culture and for being able to touch the audience through the transformative power of Art with “The Worst of All – La Peor de Todas”, a play about Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz and in defense of women’s rights.
This Festival will take place in Chicago from September 29th through October 30th.
“I, the worst of all”, in such words defined herself Sor Juana Ines De La Cruz when signing with her own blood the formal abjuration of his life and work; while the Old and New World praised her as “The Tenth Muse”, “The Phoenix of Mexico”. She lived in a dying century that refused to perish and as such, enhanced its bigotry against her talent and thirst for knowledge. Free spirit born out of their time. In the attempt to conciliate her will and her freedom, she dared to share her mind and was punished as consequence. An intellect muzzled due her audacity. She died from being silent, while her voice on behalf of women transcended oceans and ages.
